Activating Your Service:
The Kenya cellular phone number is located on a white sticker, on the reverse side of your SIM card packaging, above the bar code. The cell phone number will begin “07…”. The cell phone number will also be located on the SIM card beginning “Your Telephone number is…”
Customer service for your Kenya Safaricom prepaid SIM card is available 24 hr./day by dialing 100 at any time from your Kenya cellular phone.
* Your phone will prompt you for a 4-digit PIN code, which is located on the Kenya Prepaid SIM card under "PIN1". You will be prompted for PIN1 every time you turn on the phone. The PUK is only required to unblock you phone if you enter in a PIN code incorrectly 3x. Follow your cell phone manual instructions to correctly use the PUK to unblock your phone.
** When calling overseas from the United States to your Kenya cellular phone number callers will need to dial 011 255 followed your Kenya cell phone number BUT omitting the leading 0 (zero). To call abroad from your Kenya cell phone simply dial the [+] key (on your cell phone) or "00" followed by the country code and phone number.
Adding Talk Time:
Your Kenya SIM card package will include a KSH250 ($3.25) airtime voucher. Additional credit is available through the purchase of airtime of airtime vouchers (not another SIM card), in Kenya. Airtime vouchers are available in the following KSH denominations: 250 (30-Day expiry), 500 (60-Day expiry), 1000(120-Day expiry), 2500(240-Day expiry), 5000 (360-day expiry), 10000 (485-day expiry).
Simply punch the voucher code into the keypad of your international cell phone to credit your SIM card the respective dollar denomination you purchased.
Airtime vouchers are available locally, in Kenya at local Tabac shops, convenience stores, gas stations and Safaricom shops.
Rates:
The Domestic rates are per minute for outgoing calls within Kenya from your prepaid Safaricom SIM card while you are in Kenya. All incoming calls regardless of where they originate are FREE. All calls are billed per minute. There is a connection charge of KSH 14.50 ($.19) / DAY.

E-mail is available with your SIM card but you must be in Kenya to activate via SMS and then receive your e-mail address from Safaricom, also by SMS. An e-mail can then be sent or received up to 160 characters in length.
Service Life:
After your airtime has expired you will have 365-days to receive incoming calls but you will not be able to make outgoing calls until you add another airtime voucher. If you have not loaded additional airtime within 365-days then your Mobile phone number will be recycled. To get connected again you will be required to purchase another SIM card. The validity period begins when you arrive in Kenya.
