International Cell Phones Notes and Tips
International GSM cell phones are fast becoming one of the most popular cell phone standard for cellular phones in the world. International cell phones are already available in over 210 countries including the US and offer greater mobility and superb digital call quality. Although the most common type of digital mobile phone service in the US is CDMA, but almost all the other countries in the world use GSM cell phones. To a cell phone user, there is very little difference between using CMDA or unlocked GSM cell phones, but these two mobile cell phone formats are not compatible with each other.
The main advantage of International GSM cell phones is the higher digital voice quality and the ability for unlocked GSM cell phone subscribers to use their prepaid cell phones all over the world without incurring expensive roaming charges. Since all our GSM mobile phones are unlocked - they will work with any GSM 900, 1800 or 1900 baud SIM card so that you needn't be tied into any specific contract.
Please note that unless indicated, or unless a tri band phone, our GSM cellular phones are for use in those countries that use the 900 and/or 1800 megahertz frequencies such as all of Europe, Australia, New Zealand, most of Asia and parts of Africa, and will not work in North America. All our prepaid cellular phones are unlocked and can be used by simply slipping in a SIM card. SIM cards for international roaming are available through AT&T, T-mobile and others.
These carriers will allow you to have a US phone number while you are abroad. However, their rates are often 3 to 5 times (or more!) more expensive than getting a prepaid SIM card for the country of your destination. Plus, the major providers have monthly service charges and sometimes set up fees. When you use a US carrier, you will pay for all incoming calls.
We offer Prepaid SIM Cards for International phones (sometimes known as cellular service) for country specific use and universal cell phone service for international service using a single cell phone number.
