Akai Multistandard VCRs

Multistandard VCRs allow you to play tapes of different formats, such as NTSC and PAL, and output them in the same format. Thus, in order to see a PAL video tape on an NTSC TV or vice versa, you must either have a multisystem TV, or a video converter that will convert the video signals from the multisystem VCR to the proper format for the TV. The third option is to purchase a multistandard VCR with a built-in converter. While this is the least expensive solution, you will get better quality and a wider selection of brands and features if you purchase two separate items, such as a multistandard VCR and multistandard TV, or a multistandard VCR and a PAL/NTSC converter.
