Built-In Video Converter
This region-free DVD player includes a built-in video converter. This allows you to play DVD discs from anywhere in the world on your standard American television regardless of the DVD discs region or the video standard of the disc. Read our DVD Buyers Guide for more information on region-free DVD players.
JVC HR-XVS44U Region-free DVD/VCR Combo with Built-in PAL-to-NTSC DVD video conversion!
No combo DVD/VCR offers video conversion in the VCR section. To see PAL DVD discs and PAL VCR tapes on an NTSC TV, you'll need two different units to convert the DVD discs AND video tape from PAL to NTSC. Our converting codefree DVD players can handle the DVD discs, and our Samsung SV-5000W Converting VCR can convert video tapes to all the world's five standards.
While the JVC HR-XVS44U can convert any PAL DVD disc to NTSC, the multisystem VCR section will play and record only in NTSC tapes. To view an NTSC tape on a PAL TV you'll need a Multisystem TV or a video standards converter such as the Tenlabs.
Key Features:
Combination Platter
Combine the recording quality of S-VHS with the playback performance of a digital direct progressive scan DVD player in one easy-to-use package. The HRXVC44U is the logical choice for a variety of playback options. Record up to 400 lines horizontal resolution in S-VHS, enjoy the convenience of S-VHS ET and VHS. Watch a DVD while recording a TV program on tape. Even dub DVD to VCR (non copyright protected material). The HRXVC44U brings forth a number of entertainment opportunities.
Surround Sound
To help you re-create the realistic surround sound of today's movie soundtracks at home, the HRXVS44U combination deck has an Optical/Coaxial digital output with DTS pass thru so you can connect it to an A/V receiver with 5.1 channel DTS decoding (or a separate decoder) for exhilarating multichannel digital audio that really brings the action to life. Even without an elaborate home theater system, you can still enjoy the thrilling sounds of any movie thanks to JVC's 3D-PHONIC Virtual Surround Sound. It creates a surround sound effect by simulating surround-channel sounds using only two front stereo speakers, for a cinema-like experience from a basic stereo system.
Play Time
There's even more to this versatile component than first meets the eye. In addition to DVD and DVD+-R/RW, you can also enjoy audio CDs, VCD, and CD-R/RW discs including those you have loaded with MP3 files. Even JPEG images (on CD-R) can be enjoyed with this amazing A/V wonder. You can record on the VCR during DVD playback, and even copy your DVD to the VCR (it will not copy Macrovision protected DVDs). The variable search and slow options will help you find your favorite scenes in no time or slow down for a closer look. Parental lock gives you "screening" power so you can keep the kids from viewing any material that you think may be inappropriate for young eyes. With this entertainment extravaganza, the action doesn't stop until you want it to.
VCR Features
The broad dynamic range of Hi-Fi VHS delivers sound quality rivaling CDs for a maximum impact home theater experience and easy, high quality recording of your favorite shows, movies and more. Front and rear A/V inputs help keep your add-on options open as well as simplifying the hookup of additional components. With Super-VHS Quasi Playback (SQPB) this VCR can play back a tape recorded in Super VHS, with regular VHS resolution. Perhaps the most amazing feat performed by this multitalented player/recorder is its ability to record on the VCR while playing a DVD.
Home Theater Ready
This versatile and convenient component is designed to integrate easily into any home theater system. If you have component video inputs in your system, you can take advantage of the DVD component video output for the best picture quality your system is capable of. If your television or home theater projector is compatible with a progressive scan signal, you can take advantage of the DVD progressive scan output to enjoy images that look as good as they did on the big screen. You also have the option of S-Video, which approaches the quality of component video, and composite (RCA style) A/V connections, which are the most widely used. This combination component really packs in the performance, combining two full-featured units into one convenient case so you can save room without sacrificing performance.
